I wish there were more games like this

I really wish for this game to have at least an HD remaster however due to era we have today I'm sure Capcom will be cancelled. Game features mild nudity, stalking, voyerism and the story focuses on how her dead father wants to impregnate her 😅 That's a lot of issues that will not have an approval from most of gaming journalist today.

Bring this game back but in the style of Devil May Cry. Or even better Bayonetta. Logic need not apply. To be fair this game literally has lore that sounds like it came from the Destiny Franchsie.

Great video on a subject that doesn't get much love, but deserves this length and detail! Having played Koudelka at release, I remember two things. 1.: Thinking it was for more natural dialogue what Legacy of Kain was for shakespearian dialogue four years prior. 2.: Thinking "OMFG, how I hate with a seething fervor these f&%§ing random encounters every three f&%§ing steps!!!" They completely ruined the experience for me. You had these gorgeous graphics (for the time), evocative locations, great ambience - and then the dreaded wooooshing sound effect plays, the picture gets distorted, and strangely upbeat music comes in. (I remember the game having only two battle tracks, and with the sheer number and length of encounters I grew so sick of them that my brain tortured me with those tunes even with the game turned off! I can't believe you're saying you enjoyed them even after the 100th encounter.) Resi-like exploration in a spooky castle and turn-based combat with tiresomely drawn-out animations just don't mix. Like, at all. Thankfully I got the Xploder codes for turning random encounters off. Only then did I realize what a great horror game this could have been. Such a waste. This could've been a great Resi clone. BTW, in my opinion the voice acting is both horrible and great. Horrible because it's written and directed horribly, mostly in the first hour, and great because as the game progresses and the awfully clichéd character introductions are out of the way, the banter gets better and better. Then out of the blue it gets bad again, comes right back to being entertaining and natrual, and so on. I can't shake the feeling that Hiroki Kikuta must have had help with the script, because both writing and direction can be as inept as they can be really good. Especially considering that natural voice acting was pretty much unheard of back then.

I wonder what your thoughts are on the Fatal Frame games? Specifically 1-3. And there was this other game that took place in the underworld and like ghosts and talismans, don’t remember the name but it’s apparently known for being hard and no real happy ending

I pre-ordered this one back in the day. Still have it to this day. A lot of fun, good boss and level design.

As a similar sort of artistic project, I recommend the book 'Mind Fields', the art of Jacek Yerka and the prose of Harlan Ellison.

I played lots of adventure games and Ripper is not a bad game but some puzzles are just ridiculously hard I wonder what were they thinking when they designed these.

Honestly, I wouldn't say that the voice acting is shaky, quite the contrary. It's theatrical and combined with the low poly deliciously motion captured scenes, it's just a delight.

if you get a fake picture from Magnotta or Falconetti, it's meant to imply that they're the Ripper because they are clearly faking evidence to get you off their tail, but when you consider that Magnotta would do that anyway even if he wasn't the Ripper. If Catherine's the Ripper, you can pick up on it when she reveals she knows about Farley's death when she shouldn't. If Burton's the ripper, there's a whole long investigation string that supposedly implies it's her.

I only know Fairytale as one merged with Cocktail Soft and became F&C. Never knew they do some horror games before. If I'm not mistaken F&C only do RenAI games.

Never played the game, but the scene that stuck to ne the most and first was the part where both our protagonist sit down at a fire half drunk and talk, they talk in the most somber snd natural ive ever heard and the dialogue is alright but its the way that they deliver it, the good dialogue and excellent voice acting sold me on how uch i want to give this a go when a get a chance, honestly i do believe this old school game has the best fictional Voice acting ive ever heard from a video game and the Quality perhaps is yet to be recreated still.
